Mr. Gérard Michaud, in a letter to the French daily newspaper La Presse on March 8, 1983 in its “Tribune Libre” column, pointed out that the PQ was in fact the ‘successor’ party to the RIN, because the new PQ obtained the vast majority of its membership from the dissolution of the RIN.  So, again, what we are looking at with the PQ is a communist party, not a sovereignist party.

The Rassemblement pour l’indépendance nationale  (RIN) was a Quebec communist political party disguised as a “nationalist” party.  The RIN was founded on September 10, 1960, and claimed to be dedicated to promoting Quebec independence.  The RIN has been euphemistically described as “resolutely on the left”.
